The 9th annual Mass Ave Crit bike race was this weekend at, you guessed it, Mass Ave. It is one of my favorite weekends and because I live a few blocks away, it is so easy to walk over at noon to watch the kids and women race and then come back around dinner time for the final men’s race. The men’s pro race began around 7:30 and the top prize is $2,000. Prepare yourself for some fast cycling because these guys are moving.

Most of them have sponsored cycling unitards (the bike shorts and jersey are combined into one piece) and the bikes are top of the line. Custom Cannondales, a lot of SRAM and Zipp components, and everyone clips in. I also recently learned that Zipp has a factory in Indy and it is amazing how technical the process is in creating the best carbon hoops you can buy.

I took Winston with me in the morning for a pup cup at Starbucks and then we went back later in the evening and sat on the grass close to Marsh. We made friends with a group of guys from Richmond, Indiana and we learned all about the race – their family members were competing. They were kind enough to give Winston water and a beer for me. Hoosier hospitality right there. We covered everything from politics (dangerous!) to Jungle Jim’s (in Ohio) to Dig IN.











I’ve been thinking about the idea of the ‘Fear of Missing Out’ or FOMO, as the kids call it, and I think it’s silly. It is easy for me to say that I don’t ever want to be somewhere or feel left out after seeing a photo on social media, but you have to get to a place where you know that what you are doing at this very moment is exactly what you are supposed to be doing.

Social media has perpetuated the FOMO comments and it was so much easier when you had no idea what your friends and even acquaintances were up to on a daily basis. Some of my best memories were never instagrammed, tweeted, or shared on Facebook. While I am someone that frequently shares the things that make me happy (hello, I have a blog), remind yourself that no one has a perfect life. Not being at an event or gathering does not diminish the person you are. So get out there, live life, and don’t worry about what everyone else is doing! Make a conscious effort to do what makes you happy and avoid comparing how many ‘likes’ you get to someone else. That’s my random rant for the week.


The Indianapolis Indians hosted their first ever Yoga in the Outfield today, prior to the 1:30 p.m. game and was led by my yoga studio of choice, Invoke. I was lucky enough to serve as a volunteer and it was an incredible day of yoga and baseball. About 200 people participated including a few Indians players and it was so fun to see yoga mats lined up side by side on the field.

I volunteered as a demonstrator and hopefully helped participants understand what was going on. I brought two loaves of zucchini bread (see recipe below) and stayed for the game.

I realize that I sometimes post duplicate recipes on the blog – I probably have tried hundreds of variations of banana bread, which is how you eventually find your favorite. Zucchini bread is the same way. I had an enormous zucchini, so I googled until I found a recipe I liked and boom – the best bread I’ve ever had. It was moist and baked perfectly. The four loaf pan contraption is also one of my best purchases. You’re no longer stuck with one or two awkwardly large loaves and it is so much easier to give as gifts.

I also don’t always measure everything. Shocker, I know. Baking is all about measurements and actually reading the recipe, but as you become more comfortable in the kitchen, you can scan an ingredient list and get going. I eyeballed the amount of zucchini, did not add nuts or cranberries (this isn’t fruit cake) and added more cinnamon than is called for. I also am horrible at setting the timer, which I need to get better at. I have become distracted while kitchen dancing and ruined more than a few sheets of cookies over the years.

This recipe is ridiculously easy and the only treacherous part is fighting with your food processor to grate the zucchini. I have the biggest one that KitchenAid makes and that thing is a beast.


  • 2 teaspoons butter for greasing the pans
  • 3 to 4 cups grated fresh zucchini
  • 3 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 1/3 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt (omit if using salted butter)
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

Grate the zucchini and set aside. Add the wet ingredients together. Add the dry ingredients together. Slowly add the dry to the wet. Mix in the zucchini and add to a greased baking pan.

Bake for a little less than an hour and check with a toothpick. Enjoy!

  1. I love your thoughts on FOMO, Libby! So true!

    This is part of the reason I got off of social media for a while; I was feeling so empty at times- missing out, but on what? I had my own life, my own family, my own friends, and somehow this idea of not measuring up, not having a enough, kept creeping up on me.

    I definitely have a different perspective now, and I’m thankful that God’s changed my views. He’s reminded me that I have enough and am enough, and I’m not missing out. He’s made me content with who I am and what I have.
