I’m honored to be one of thirteen W.I.S.H Honorees for Make-A-Wish of Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana for 2018. Women Inspiring Strength and Hope (W.I.S.H.) is an initiative that provides women in the community an opportunity to give hope, strength and joy to children with life-threatening medical conditions.
One of my best friends, Lauren Petersen, has been involved with the Make-A-Wish organization for almost a decade and I have watched in awe as she has made an impact on a WISH kids’ life year after year. When LP asked if I’d consider being an Honoree, I jumped at the chance.
I wanted to raise money in honor of Denver and also to help add a little hope to a child’s life as they navigate battling an illness. I have had my share of doctor’s appointments and while it’s not fun for anyone, it is especially hard on kids.
My WISH kid, Finn, is battling leukemia and despite this, he is one of the happiest kids I’ve ever met. He loves pepperoni pizza and superheroes, so I threw him a party in January as a belated birthday celebration for him and his friends. My mom made a superhero cape for Finn and a Wonder Woman costume for me. It was a really special night and I’m thankful for family and friends who helped me pull it off!
Not surprising, Finn’s dream is to go to Disney World to meet his favorite superheroes – he is so excited since he’s never been to Disney. You can support Finn’s WISH here.
I’ve included a few photos from the luncheon, as well as Finn’s superhero party. The highlight of the luncheon was WISH kid Dax, who was surprised with his wish to receive a service dog. They are already the best of friends and it was the sweetest moment.
